This year marks 80 years since Honouliuli Internment Camp was closed and as part of this year’s commemoration Honouliuli National Historic Site is hosting a free film screening of a local documentary, Voices Behind Barbed Wire, that was made about Japanese American incarceration in Hawai’i. There we're four such incarceration sites on Kaua’i and people from Kaua’i we're held at Honouliuli. The film screening will be followed by a panel session featuring the director and park superintendent. It will be at the Kaua’i Community College’s Performing Arts Center and starts at 4pm and ends at 5:30pm.
Additionally, the Lihue public library which will be hosting a pop-up exhibit about the camp for the entire month of July.
