Hawaii Events in July 2026 — Complete Island-by-Island Guide
July is the heart of Hawaii's summer season. Schools are out, flights are full, beaches are busiest, and the event calendar across all four islands runs at its peak. The weather is warm and dry (especially on the south and west shores). South swells bring some of the best surfing of the year to Waikīkī and the south shores.
Here's what's reliably on the calendar every July in Hawaii, plus how to find the specific 2026 events as they're announced.
July 4th in Hawaii
July 4th in Hawaii means fireworks — with a twist. The main show on Oʻahu is at Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu Harbor, visible from the downtown waterfront and from boats in the harbor. A smaller show runs off the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Friday nights throughout summer (every Friday 7:45pm, year-round) — which often coincides with the July 4 weekend.
Best free viewing spots for July 4th:
- Magic Island / Ala Moana Beach Park (excellent sightlines to Harbor fireworks)
- Kaka'ako Waterfront Park
- Any elevated spot in the neighborhoods above downtown
Maui's July 4th fireworks have historically run at Lāhainā Harbor. Check current status given ongoing west Maui recovery — events may be in alternative locations. Kīhei and Wailea also run fireworks near the beach hotels.
Kauaʻi typically has a community fireworks show at Vidinha Stadium in Lihuʻe. Big Island shows at Hilo Bay and Kona Bay.
Annual July Events (recurring every year)
Prince Lot Hula Festival (Oʻahu, usually mid-July): Moanalua Gardens, free admission. One of the most authentic hula festivals on Oʻahu — dozens of hālau perform in the shadow of a 100-year-old monkeypod tree. No tickets, donation box at the entrance.
Hilo Orchid Society Shows (Big Island, July-August): The Big Island is the orchid capital of the U.S. The Hilo Orchid Society runs shows at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium — free or nominal admission.
Obon Season (statewide, July-August): Buddhist Obon festivals run at temples across all four islands throughout July and August. Traditional Japanese bon dance (tanko bushi), lanterns, food stalls. Hawaii State Farm Fair (Oʻahu, usually early July): Blaisdell Center grounds. The state fair, Hawaiian style — farm animals, local food vendors, carnival rides, live entertainment. Family-focused.
Slack Key Guitar Festival (various locations): The George Kahumoku Jr. Slack Key Guitar Masters Concert Series runs July dates on Maui and the Big Island. World-class Hawaiian guitar. Intimate venues, $25-35 tickets.
Kapalua Wine & Food Festival (Maui): Annual wine and food event at Kapalua Resort. Chef demonstrations, wine seminars, outdoor dinners. Ticket prices vary by event.
What's Reliably Great in July (Any Year)
Whale watching: Humpbacks are mostly gone by July (they leave May-ish). But spinner dolphins are year-round off the Kona coast. Manta rays at their most reliable — July conditions off the Kona coast are excellent.
Surfing: South swells run through July. Waikīkī is fun and surfable for all levels. Kīhei south shore, Poʻipū on Kauaʻi, Kona coast — all have good summer swells.
Free hula: The Kūhiō Beach Hula Mound (Waikīkī) runs shows every Saturday 6:30-7:30pm. The Royal Hawaiian Center has free weekday cultural programs at 10am.
Night sky: The rainy season on the summit of Mauna Kea doesn't stop the telescopes; July skies are often clear. The Onizuka Center Visitor Information Station at 9,200 feet is free and has telescopes set up for public viewing Friday and Saturday nights 6pm-10pm.
