Biography
The Green is a reggae band formed in 2009 on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaii. Often associated with Hawaii's island-reggae sound, the group builds its music around multiple lead vocalists and blends roots reggae and dub with lovers rock, contemporary pop, and rock, incorporating Hawaiian musical and lyrical references. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2010, and its single "Love I" became a breakthrough on Hawaiian radio and set a Billboard Reggae chart record by staying on the chart for 69 straight weeks.
The band established itself on national reggae charts early on. Its 2011 album Ways & Means won Best Reggae Album at the 2011 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards and reached number one on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. The group signed with Easy Star Records, and its 2013 album Hawaiʻi '13 won several honors at the 2014 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, including Reggae Album of the Year and Group of the Year. The 2017 album Marching Orders won Reggae Album of the Year at the 2018 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards.
The Green's lineup features Caleb Keolanui on lead vocals, Zion Thompson on guitar and vocals, Ikaika Antone on keyboards and vocals, Brad Watanabe on bass, and Jordan Espinoza on drums. Founding members JP Kennedy (guitar, vocals) and Leslie Ludiazo (drums) have since departed. Beyond studio releases including Brand New Eyes (2021), the band has issued EPs and live recordings and continues to tour, with a new album, Titles, announced for release on July 17, 2026.
