Biography
Anuhea (full name Rylee Anuheakeʻalaokalokelani Jenkins, born December 10, 1985) is a singer-songwriter from Makawao, on the island of Maui. She graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 2003 and attended Chapman University in California before leaving in 2005 to pursue music. Her aunt, Nalani Jenkins Choy, is a member of the Hawaiian group Na Leo Pilimehana. Anuhea's sound draws on acoustic guitar, reggae, pop, and R&B, a mix often described as island or beach pop.
Her self-titled debut album, Anuhea, was released in 2009 on the One Hawaii Music label and reached number two on the Billboard World Albums chart, also charting on the Heatseekers and independent albums lists. She followed with For Love (2012), which included the single 'Only Man in the World' featuring Jamaican reggae artist Tarrus Riley, and later released Follow Me (2017), reissued as Follow Me: Deluxe Hawaii Edition, along with the compilation A10: Best of Anuhea (2019). Her album Lotus was released in 2024.
Anuhea has been recognized by the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, Hawaii's principal music-industry honors. She won Most Promising Artist and Contemporary Album of the Year in 2010, and Female Vocalist of the Year in 2019 for Follow Me: Deluxe Hawaii Edition. She continues to tour and record, and hosts the 'Just Keep Jamming' podcast alongside her music career.
