Sunset Cruises in Hawaii

A Hawaii sunset cruise is the classic date-night and celebration activity — a 2-2.5 hour catamaran sail departing around 5:30 PM, open bar included, watching the sun fall into the Pacific from the ocean side. Every island has multiple operators; quality varies a lot.
What you get: mai tais, beer, wine, light pupu (appetizers). Usually whale watching commentary in winter. Sea turtles and dolphins common year-round. Island mountains turning pink and gold behind you. The photos are reliably good from any angle.
Maui is the best island for sunset cruises because the west-facing coast — Lāhainā, Māʻalaea, Kāʻanapali — has unobstructed western horizon. You see the sun drop straight into the ocean, sometimes with a green flash. Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi silhouette in the background.
Oʻahu sunset cruises depart from Kewalo Basin (Waikīkī-adjacent) or Aloha Tower in downtown Honolulu. The Waikīkī skyline is actually a great sunset backdrop — fewer open-ocean views but more dramatic skyline light.
